BEST HOTEL LOCATION - ONE OF MANY PERKS ON WASHINGTON, DC TOUR

Washington DC

A proven adage of real estate development is “Location, Location, Location”.

The same is true with quality travel experiences. A rule of thumb to use in quickly judging the quality of any travel tour is the location of the hotels included in the itinerary. Lesser quality experiences often use hotels that are “miles removed” from where participants need to be. In fact, many such itineraries require tour members to be subjected to long, inconvenient, tiring, time-wasting rides and transfers. Always check the location of the hotels in any tour itinerary.

The upcoming WASHINGTON, DC WEEK, June 7/13 is a perfect example of a “high quality” travel experience using the absolute best hotel location in all of our Nation’s Capital City. Walk out the front door of the hotel and the Capitol Building is just to your right, a little over a block away. Walk out the front door of the hotel and you are just one block away from the world-famous Union Station, which houses the world’s largest room - filled with shops and eateries of all kinds. It is also from Union Station that two of the day-long “in depth” sightseeing tours our groups enjoy, featuring Washington, DC and its historical surroundings in nearby Virginia (like Washington’s Mt. Vernon, historic Alexandria, etc.), depart. Also, walk out of the hotel and just across the street is the Smithsonian Post Office Museum.

To fully appreciate the uniqueness of the hotel – and its “one-of-a-kind” location - visit its website at www.phoenixparkhotel.com and take a virtual tour. The Irish Pub in the hotel was a favorite haunt of renowned Speaker of the House ‘Tip” O’Neill. Past tour members have seen the likes of Hillary Clinton, Dennis Hastert, and other politicos frequenting the hotel. Other encounters that have occurred elsewhere on this incomparable travel experience have been: meeting and visiting with Barack Obama, having an unscheduled tour of the Whitehouse kitchens and living quarters, and observing President Reagan’s cortege from a nearby street as it traveled to repose in the Capitol Building.

An example of the important role hotel location plays in this WASHINGTON, DC WEEK is an included experience featured in each year’s special departure. A leisurely morning stroll begins at the hotel’s front door and heads towards the nearby Capitol Building. En route our group passes Fox News Headquarters, stops for photos at the famous pulsating water fountains that silhouette the shape of the Capitol, stop to rest on a bench commemorating the location of George Washington’s surveyor’s cabin, and quickly arrive at the tree-covered walkways leading to the west front of the Capitol overlooking the Mall. More photos. Captured scenes include the Capitol, the Washington Monument, the Reflecting Pool, the Lincoln Memorial, a bronze statue of Ulysses S. Grant astride his war mount, magnificent statues reflecting the ravages of the Civil War upon man and beast, and museums bordering either side of the Mall. It’s then a few more feet to the Botanical Gardens and other Smithsonian Museums. Everything just described is within easy walking distance of our hotel, The Phoenix Park Plaza.
